I had a frustrating afternoon sesh yesterday, came home walked the dogs did some gardening then read the blog... I saw Bajel's post about going surfing at 7:30 and getting an hour and a half of surf in. so I decided an 8pm go out was in order. Scored an after sunset cover up... Thanks Bajel for the inspiration!!

Posted by: mexi [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 09:47 AM

mexi,
you and the bajel are an inspiration...i'm gonna do a sunset go out tonight....and i'm buying beers afterward for any one who mentions this post

keep surfing whenever you can. my life has resorted to watching "Sunrise Earth" on Discovery HD every morning which is nothing but video and sound of waves crashing on some random beach. IT'S ALL I GOT. well I am headed to South Carolina in one month for two weeks of surfing that junk beach break.

in other news for fellow stoners: i've gone on a big hiatus for the last three weeks. completely cold turkey after years and years of 1/2 oz per month. the effects have been interesting. HEAVY HEAVY NIGHTMARES involving death, family members, etc...daytime anger, frustration, trouble concentrating - daytime lathargy. But I think I'm still in the stages of getting it out of my system and I believe clear headedness will return soon. My goal is to cut back to just a few days per week rather than having it be such a big part of life. Will it happen? I'll keep you guys updated if you don't mind.

get wet.

and remember, guys:

haha. second thoughts on mentioning last nights activities e?

Posted by: fanboy critic [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 10:33 AM

Damn, them are some words EG. I couldn't help but to ask: How in the hell do you function in everyday life smoking that much herb? Is it more that you smoke after work hours, in the morning before work, during work?

Fuck man, good luck with that. I would have never thought the herbal-ness would cause nightmares and such.

In other news, looks like the surf was surfy ONLY AFTER 8:00 this morning. I checked it early morning and it was funky and foggy. I passed. Got to the office, checked the cam from a reference of another surfer and it looked much better then what I saw out there. Maybe more water helped. Fog wind was pretty strong as well.

herbage and dreams. I notice that when not smoking I actually remember my dreams. Maybe you were having nitemares all the time but just not remembering? The water is sooo warm here that I went out yesterday just to 'get wet'. Waves...thats another story.

Andy M......Now that's a name I haven't heard in awhile. Funny to see the old Seatrend logo.

Posted by: 3to5setsof7 [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 11:06 AM

Mid-beach went through some moods this AM. Foggy and hard to be in the right spot... then nice sets under the sun... then funky.

All in all, very fun!

Question on the herbage... I stopped about a month ago, then did a bit pre-surf 3 weeks ago and again 2 weeks ago.

I have a test on Friday AM. Any recommendations on securing a 'Pass?' Anything I can pick up at GNC?

Thanks!

Posted by: SFK [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 11:11 AM

Kind of surprised by the lack of excitement on the blog this morning.

I drove the length in the fog and was gonna pass but on the last circuit the fog lifted just enough to see mid-beach......WTF! Sets! Breaking outside! Clean! Long Walls! No Wind!

One of the fastest wetsuit changes in history. Sets kept geting bigger, cleaner and more frequent. By the time I left the larger sets were easily a few feet overhead at the peak and you could ride them all the way to the beach. Pretty easy paddle too.

To my mind this morning was better than much of last winter and the best I have surfed in the city all spring.

Posted by: kdalle [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 11:27 AM

Oh yeah, I'm hosting a bluegrass jam at my house Thursday night. It's a novice group of folks with some decent chops. So far I've got a couple of mandolins, fiddle, guitar and banjo. If any of you know some of the standard material and want to come, RSVP at kdalle@sbcglobal.net

Keep surfing no matter what.

Posted by: kdalle [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 11:31 AM

Missing surf! Boo hiss on my current spot in the metropolis. Too little surf for me this week, and too much getting busted by the Ceiling Cat.

EG I think your long rebound is pretty typical considering the amounts you took in. Your brain has to get used ot this, could take up to 6 weeks. Good luck and yah, keeping it around for an occasional "treat" and not "treatment" is wise.

Posted by: Ancient Jetties [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 11:33 AM

yeah, it was kinda fun. the kneelie boys were definitely getting some nice looking drops. i guess i really prefer small, hollow and fast. but i felt lucky to get what i got.
what exactly is that bulldozer trying to accomplish? looked like it was tearing up the dunes. the huge shovel bit made an interesting bed for a couple of street kids anyway.

Posted by: steamwand [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 11:43 AM

Yup, at about 7:15 the fog lifted and it was solid head high to a couple feet overhead at the peak i was at. When I paddled in at around 8:30 it looked slightly smaller, i was even considering ditching work. The paddle was long but easy.... now i at work.

Posted by: toooshy [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 11:43 AM

kaiser: yes, really only toking after work but filling up the volcano vaporizor multiple times per night after the kids asleep. i wasn't having too much trouble functioning in life as i feel everything is under control. family, wife, kids, finances, job, etc...not having a 9-5 grinder in an office probably makes it a little easier on me. but it got to a point where it wasn't that much fun anymore because it was always just "state of mind"

Posted by: EG Pimp [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 11:44 AM

Looks like the wind is on it now... 1/2 a month? Dang.

Posted by: mexi [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 11:49 AM

thanks mexi but mother nature is the real inspiration maaaaan. the rare evening glass offs in SF are about the best shit ever, the hood takes on a whole different vibe, vacation in the back yard style. happy to be surfing a good beachbreak again too. bluegrass jam sounds awesome kdalle..

good one on you, pimp. im interested in your progress..im phasing out of my daily habit for the last couple of months now, i really just learned how much weed/money i was basicaly wasting. so much better to smoke when you mean it..

Posted by: bajel [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 11:56 AM

I'm pissed. I walked to the beach at 5:45 as the fog blew in. Couldn't see the surf and felt a stiff wind in my face so I passed. What an idiot.

Posted by: Dennis [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 11:58 AM

It was looking sweet when I checked it at 9, but gradually got more crumbly and I think sparser over the next two hours. Long lines. Stealth swell? I didn't see it forecast. Glad I brought the 7'4", but still missed all the good outside sets. I think even with the big board, you still need to be able to paddle. I suck. A couple fun insiders on the way in, though.

Nice on the bluegrass jam. Went to one the other weekend and it was so cool to see little groups jamming under the trees all over. Love how the style is, everyone in a tight circle trading off leads. Even saw a couple washtub basses.

The buoys seem to be lookin' good. I'm off!

FWIW... I was one of the kneelies... SFK = SFKneelo...

Anyhow, I was shocked to see what seemed like a 20 wave set come through. Thought I would blow a lung humping to get outside. It was a very good problem to have!

So... about that drug test... any 411 on cleansing? A tip today could lead to a bud tomorrow! ;-)

Posted by: SFK [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 12:16 PM

I passed once by drinking a gallon of h20 mixed with a few shots of vinergar... But they sell tons of full proof stuff on haight street.

Posted by: Dennis [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 12:44 PM

thanks for posting my pics E!....3to5, do I know you from the old days in SC?
Just got out of the North End; super fun weird double-up South sideways long-shot connect the dot sections...me and 3 other guys in the water who are all friends and one of the guys decides to stare me down WHY I just don't get it then in the parking lot another stare down grumpy weird where do you come from vibe/stare session...jeez, so much ego in the surf-realm. I'll never understand why something so amazing as riding waves can bring out such heinous behaviour in certain individuals. Why do guys stare at guys? Something latent going on? Anyhow, saludos to the board, E, and keeping the Aloha alive. BTW, I've booked G-Land for the last week of the season (October)...anybody been there that time of year? I did so thinking it might be less crowded and I'm just hoping I don't get skunked!

Posted by: steamwand [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 12:59 PM

Thx, Mexi!

No kidding there, Steamwand! It's not a Employment drug test, it's for Life Insurance.

While my work is militant on many things, there is no drug testing.

Failing would mean getting tossed into the 'smoker' category, which means paying the highest rates.

I'm also trying to get the best cholesterol readings, and so on.

No booze either from now til afterwards :-(

Posted by: SFK [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 01:09 PM

I drank a few shots of vinergar the night bbefore and an hour or so before the test, and I drank a gallon of h2o an hour or so before hand. Pee for a bit then let the last bit of pee go into the jar. Clean as a whistle.

good luck.

Alot of the places I want to travel to get good in the fall, it sort of sucks b/c I want to travel to those places but do not want to miss the good sessions of surf in our backyard. Places like france, spain, portugal, morrocco.
Also, a strange thing is that I have been surfing alot more this summer than I did last winter. I sort of wanted to head down south of mexico, but I am content staying put.

Posted by: toooshy [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 01:23 PM

kdalle - I've been playing banjo for about 2 1/2 years and am itching to jam but can't make Thursday. Think it'll turn into a regular thing? It's cool that you're kicking it off.

Posted by: r3w [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 02:18 PM

andrew m- i went to bali and islands east in november 2000...the winds were different than the peak season, favoring different breaks, but we scored lots of waves. still crowded, but less than the prime time, even lombok & sumbawa. never been to gland, but i hear it picks up plenty of swell. i'm going through the same fall trip debate- it could be good here, and the last few septembers have seen very nice souths come through...

do not put your faith in the vinegar and water treatment. its all about Creatine. (sp?) If you want insurance for your insurance, go to the head shop and buy a right proper kit for about $40.

andrew m- if you have enough brains to sign in here you should be smart enough to figure out that you weren't being cruised nor does it have anything to do with ego. very simply, you're not welcome at the north end dumbshit. hope that doesn't crush your fragile little ego.

Anon local regulating. Good to see him out.

Foster City Lagoon on the east side had some peelers off the wind chop.

Posted by: Bernie Spear [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 02:58 PM

oh that's just precious...I'll surf wherever I want and whenever I want including the North End which I first surfed in 1976 on a perfect head high day with nothing but smiling faces everywhere (that's 30 years ago if you can do the math). Ego? Tell me about it mr big man. Or in other words, and given the fatc that I'm willing to disrespect myself by even replying to your completely obnoxious and shallow-minded response, piss off kook.

Posted by: anon local [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 03:15 PM

Buyahh EG Pimp!
I posted this a little while ago, applies to the subject of slacking back on the hack weed. That fact that your subconscious is bustin' out is delivering an important message and in the end will probably lead to a more heightened sense of clarity during your waking hours. Charge It!

"Pot deprives you of important subconscious activities that take place only during times of level 5 (Delta) REM sleep.

The debate is how important those activities can be. If you delve into it you'll find the scientific and the religious battling it out in this grey zone. Brain activity can be measured but there is little to measure what could potentially be happening in subconscious as we see played out in our dreams.

Are dreams important? Another question open to debate, but I think innately we all know the answer!

-The original Locals believed the sleep time to be more valuable than the waking time.
-Drugs were used at puberty to force the meeting with spirit guides.
-LSD and his friends caused many in a generation to travel to the bitter edge of the meeting between man and the great beyond, sometimes with disastrous results.

I quit the weed after some serious bong time and introspection. I felt a disconnect coming on, my dreams were being robbed from me. Those great ideas, visions, solutions to problems, etc. were vanishing in the pre-dawn light.

The word "dream" is traditionally traced back to an Anglo-Saxon word meaning joy, gladness, or mirth. However, "dream" more likely came from another word (from Sanskrit) meaning deception. A little of both perhaps?"

Posted by: searoom [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 03:42 PM

You choose your own meanings to transpose onto whatever it is you're looking at (ie you've got some seriously skewed vision and biased abilities of perception)...obviously you're a true hard-ass who sees negativity wherever you can find it. Yes, I assure you, I will surf wherever the fuck I want. As for the pics, they weren't sent with the intention of having them posted but when they were I was stoked because this is a nice/ness community and I've had some great connections through it so the thought of sharing some of my history with the board was a nice thought...damn, you're quite the asshole anon and I'm glad I'll never know you. Have you smiled today? Wished anyone well? Got a little road-rage going on with that Kelly's Cove sticker on your bumper? Had a tough life? Pop's use to beat your ass all the time? JOIN THE CLUB you pissant. Get over yourself because it's NOT ABOUT YOU AND HOW YOU FEEL OR THINK. It all comes around and it's coming your way. In your honor I won't ever post again my suspicion that fellows like you are repressed individuals that are fascinated with thier attraction to men and in turn beat thier wives and treat everybody else like shit. Rock on hater. I'll work on sending you good thoughts because you seriously need them.

Posted by: andrew m [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 03:47 PM

fanboy critic... good call! I was talking to a friend that suggested that too.

I just got back from getting some. I found it at a non-chain health store. $20 for tablets.

Guess we'll see how this goes in a few weeks!

(I felt so... dirty... asking the store manager about my little problem.

She turned, pointed at me, and let out a Donald Sutherland 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' shriek!

I am now on the lam. Please do not reveal my location. ;-) )

Posted by: SFK [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 03:51 PM

Just to point out the obvious, here's Surfline's "forecast" for today...

Wednesday,Jun 14: 2-3 ft.+ - knee to chest high occasionally 4 ft. and fair - conditions.
Fading SSW swell, some more NW windswell. Building afternoon onshore winds.

Posted by: dano [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 04:00 PM

ummmm, I did not say $20, I said $40. those $20 dollar tablets are weaksauce. But based on your few and far between recent instances of intake, you should be fine. Make sure you know the exact testing time and follow the instructions religiously. I would not expect a life insurance piss test to check for thc (as opposed to an employer screening, more likely just checking for alcohol intake and prescription drugs.

and the next time someone stares at any of you in the water, just say: 'what the fuck are you looking at' and spare us all the second guessing and intenet bickering. total weaksauce.

Posted by: fanboy critic [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 04:05 PM

how could you not show respect for a dude who was surfing ob in '76 and hucking airs in '86? even if its just the internet.

Thanks for the photos and the images my mind has created with the idear of OB/SF in 1976.

Posted by: obro [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 04:10 PM

Wanted to chime in about the drug test. Make sure you know if it is a drug screen or a drug test. Drug screens can be circumvented using the GNC products, or drinking a lot of water. But if it a test like the GC/MS(?), then it is a lot harder. Something like Urine-Luck will do that trick. Or, find a donor.

I've been in that situation a few years back and scrambled to find a donor.

Posted by: bz880 [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 04:21 PM

Thanks obro...I first moved to OB from Hermosa in 76 (that first pic is Hermosa in 74 @ 11 yrs old) and then my family moved to Santa Cruz in 80 (the second pic is right after I graduated from HS) and now I've been back in SF for the last 6 years.
In 76 Kelly's Cove was incredible, seriously, everybody smiling and hooting and passing fatties around to whoever wanted some. Contrary to anonlocal's opinion, I was very welcome and continued to surf the place all throughout my life. Writing is fun. Writing tirades to jerks is super fun. Reading brainless replies from said jerk? Even better.

Posted by: andrew m [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 04:32 PM

listen andrew, I'm calling bullshit. back then the only 13 yr. olds that surfed OB were two brothers two years apart in age. I'll bet you can't name three of the people that you claim were so generous with you. in fact, your claims beg the age old question, "what high school did you go to?" incidentally, unlike you, I haven't had an angry thought all day.

Posted by: anon local [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 05:10 PM

54 posts! old school!

andrew m and anon local: only one way to settle this. in the water. you two should have a surf-off. 1 hour heat at a neutral avenue, ASP scoring. i am sure there would be many volunteers to provide neutral judging. hoods can protect anonymity if that's an issue.

Posted by: vons [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 05:18 PM

umm, your thoughts seemed pretty angry today
"dumbshit"? "not welcome"? "fragile little ego"?
oh wait, those are happy good vibe thoughts?
I'm not going to tell you what HS I went to you because judging by your vibe here today you're the type who would do some research, seek me out, and kick my ass. No thanks. I'm not going to justify my life and my history to you, but I'll certainly say that I'm a very sincere, gentle, knowledge-seeking and loving person and that all I say about my past is true. My thoughts today were angry? Yes, you got a bit of a rise out of me, duly acknowledged, but it's because I have indeed been around since 76 and here I find myself 30 years later just catching some waves and I'm getting vibes in the water and then attacks on an internet board within which I thinks is a safe place to idly post random thoughts about life from some guy with a chip on his shoulder about my friggin random thoughts about surfing etc...and then your below the belt attack... what is the fucking problem? Why? Why so protective? OB is the GODAMN PEOPLE"S BEACH...are you entitled to say to me that I am not welcome at the beach where I live and surf? NO. You are not entitled to "regulate" in that way. No one is. Take the bullshit you're calling on me and do something with it. I know those brothers and yes I cannot name any of the people from that time because...well shit man, you have NO IDEA what was going on in my life at that time and if I were to tell you you just might, just might understand why you pissed me off so much today. I barely remeber the good stuff and that which I do is a total blessing to me.

Furthermore, were you a census taker at the beach in 76? To my memory there were quite a few people around surfing and getting high. What gives? I repsect your past and history at the beach, but others have theirs too and you've no right to denegrate the experience and history of others. Are you racist too? I'd be happy to surf against you in a heat (more than happy), or even a dance off (I love to dance...can you dance?). But you frighten me man, and yes, I have a fragile ego...but shit if I'm not working my ass off on THAT issue and the learning that's coming forth definitely doesn't involve "regulating" OB, and moreover absoloutley does not involve taking pot-shots at innocent happy surfing folk....(like I said, writing is fun....the board is back). E, feel free to cut me off, because I'm just getting started. My next campaign is a deal I'm working out with a florist on Balboa to give flowers to all the KC locals when they get out of the water with a note that says....I know you've figured that one out so I don't need to say it. But damn Anon, how good was the fucking sand in the late 70's? Fucking awesome.....

andrew, I must concede, you've masterfuly skirted the issues, dodged the bullets and played the both the sympathy and the race cards. emotional baggage aside, you could have a wonderful future as a politician. with the average american's attention span being what it is I don't think the high school graduation date will be an issue. and less I be percieved as being entirely without heart, nice air.

Andrew M
anon local is a bitch. anyone who post lame vibes like him should be banned and E should sack uo and do so. just when people were starting to post some jackass has to go ruin the vibe. I just had to deal with death and disease all weekend for perpsective and anyone so miopic in their attitudes such as anon should move to haiti and see how the rest of the world lives then realize he and the rest of the stinkeye crew are a bunch of spoiled bitches. keep that negative shit off the board

Dig, and thanks for the begrudging props.
The info for your assumption about my past was actually not given, I made sure of that. The last person I want to know my particulars is you. I skirted nothing. I remained me on all counts sans exact figures. You want North End? It's yours. I'll still be there on occasion but I'll look away when I see you. And in the parking lot, I'll take your nasty vibes and turn them into a good thoughts, into the thought of the sea as a healing force, as a spirit guide, as a way to balance all the strife and negativity that bombards us each day on the roads, in the markets, in the streets and at the beach. I will tell myself that you are a casualty (and reminding myself that I too am a casualty) and that you need my understanding...I will tell myslef to let it go and the next time I won't mention it on this board. Good learning today. peace out.

Negativity creates positivity. Or something like that.

I'm actually in Sheboygan Wi. I've never been to Ocean Beach. It's been hella fun messing with your ass. Do you ever surf around the corner? You know, in front of the Sutro Baths n' shit. I hear it gets good there! Blatz to you man, you just don't quit (but then again, neither do I). BLATZ, Stoney Point, and Lake MI. represent! You West Coast people are really fucked up.
Blatz. I'm drinking it now and it's tasty as hell.

anon local

the only locals are the miwoks and ohlones and they are long gone thanks to your attitudes as lame as your own. Leave andrew alone. You're probable jealous because he can actually surf and all you do is cruise the parking lot spreading your negative vibes. i.e., you are the kook, not him!

Posted by: antman [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 14, 2006 07:56 PM

dear antman, posts like yours will end up causing e to have his ass handed to him by some pissed off local. at least identify yourself and take some of the heat off of him. like it or not whiny kooks like you will be regulated in and out of the water.

anon

I am a local
I am pissed off with your aggro attitude
be mellow
take a walk
give some change to the homeless
do some charity work
soon you will be an old man with a catheter in your prick wishing you had appreciated what life has given you as some hot nurses aid pushes you through your nursing home.
you single handedly ruined a great day on Niceness. I show respect to all in and out of the water but respect must be mutual. What did Andrew do to disrespect you so much?
Sure I will leave E out of this, your the problem , not E.
and if your so bold what the fuck is your name?

One vote for turning anon local's handle off.

Bowls looks, ahhhh! Trunks!

Realize it or not, like it or not -- "anon local" just pulled e's blog out of the doldrums today. Like sharks to blood, some of you! I'm torn as to whether this is a good thing. Entertaining thing -- yes. Good thing -- keyboard stalking, etc? I dunno, not my thing.

Yo, this shit is BACK!

But, before we leave for the night, one last betty!

Keep in mine boys and girls, for every Andrew M there is an Anon Local. Play fun, play fair, just make sure you entertain the rest of us.

Sactomex, bring it! Camel-Toe-Off Thursday, whadda ya say?

Came out of hiding. Good punchy swell today and gettin' better!

Damn E's words have been on it. And this site came alive today. Brought all the old fools out of hiding...r3w, kdalle's pickin', fights, locals, airs, herb intake, old buddies, great wave pics, butts, words.
