Good morning offshore winds and clear skies!
What up everyone? Your substitute is in today as E has some business to take care of and asked me to fill in today. So, let me start with a little round up of the morning out there:
Swell: SF bouy at 7.2 @ 9 sec
Wind: 5-10 mph out of the E to ESE
Overall: Clear as can be with a nice winter chill
Water Quality: All beaches look to be open (SM County is delayed from 1/6 AS USUAL...)
It was a beautiful morning this morning, first one in while! I checked the beach pre-light and was amazed at how crappy it looked. Seriously, it looked really crappy. I bumped into several of the morning crew but no one was heading out. I decided to take a dip and get wet as I haven't DP'd for a few weeks now. Paddled out and sat by myself for about 40 minutes. The waves were neither here nor there as the tide gave it the "inbetween" feeling. Unloading the inner bar, not really doing the thing on the middle bar. I floated around and snagged a few quick rights that were basically really soft rides. There was just enough size/steepness to get up and get a bit of speed to race the mushburger. All in all, it was worth for the mere fact that I surfed alone and got a nice sunrise to boot. Usually there are 100's of people at the spot I surfed when the weather is the way it is today. But......Not today! Completely empty.
Maybe later today things will clean up a bit on either the extreme high tide or the extreme low tide.
Check out some pics from the Inlet, pretty sick moves on such small waves!

Careful guys! there are some strange things washing up in the water out there...

Posted by: snake at January 12, 2005 09:51 PMOK Enough already!
Posted by: searoom at January 12, 2005 09:58 PMI'm getting old and slow and have decided to give up the goods from a variety of X-Pacific trips.
The Jewel of the Pacific? Check it on your charts and buy a yacht.
Alingalapalap (spelling may vary according to charts)
Go and mind blow!
Bring toothbrushes and floss as I was on the MV Canvasback doing medical/dental relief work from Johnston through to the Marshalls.
And as the Great Leader Bush says, we have to win the hearts and minds.
The real deal on pacific island surf? As mentioned before, yachts don't like big waves. To score one has to be heavily committed to rock n' roll anchorages with poor holding, long periods of time on the hook away from EVERYTHING.
When you do connect with 'The Spot' there is a chance you'll be sharing it with 3 French Guys wearing gold banana hammocks and day glow reef booties, yoikes!
But no matter where, be it seasonal river mouth point breaks in Japan, isolated slab reefs in central Baja, or the most isolated rock in the South Pacific some Feral Australian 'Surf Bastard' will emerge, sickly, blinking and puking to declare it the "The Best Farkin' Day Ever!"
God I love surf travel!

SOA,
Posted by: 3to5setsof7 at January 13, 2005 08:18 AMyea AS is claimer for sure. However he didn't spew a name like you did. DUH!
RE: "yea AS is a claimer for sure". What is the difference between, Bruce, Mexi or any other regular posters of their own photography? Are they not also claimers? I would guess they were at the locations that they photographed, no? So what if whomever AS is went to a spot that is as easy to find as the back of his hand? So he was excited about a great vacation. So he relayed his excitement to us on the internet. What is he claiming? People need to take their faux jaded, anti-excitement, cooler than thou attitudes in for reexamination. Again I reference some real problems: Iraq, Indonesia, La Conchita, people strung out & sleeping on the streets and on and on and on. Surfing was supposed to be fun when I signed on as a kid. This site was (correct me if I am wrong) set up to share the fun of surfing here and wherever people may travel. Are you all still so stitched to your high school emotional processes that you can't for a minute reflect on something and just be glad for someone else's good fortune for having taken a great trip away from the mundanery that makes up daily living? The frequent stretches of marginal to crappy surf around here are gladly broken up for me by checking out pictures of places that I might like to see and recalling memories of places that I have been. That is why I check this site. AS's picture was a facilitator of that process and I welcome it. Thanks AS.
