E's Surf Report

yo. i hit up vfers. meaty and topsy turvy, but a few decent rides if you were patient.

e and i went and saw buckethead (with guests brain and house) on friday night. that guy is from another world. even if you're not a fan of guitar gods, you'll be amazed by his performance.

Me and the seagulls where I surfed. Outer bars breaking, in a disorganized way, with an occasional double overhead cleanup mush-bomb. Surfed the 6'6" - that board really gigs in faster stuff.

It is always genuinely nice to be out there alone, watch the sunrise over Mt Davidson, and commune with Neptune.

As I walked the dog, I saw someone stretching and entering as I headed North along the promenade. For the life of me, I couldn't find them on the way back.

500 miles south was fun this weekend. warm water, probably about 70 degrees, fun little waves coming thru. friday night, sat. morn and sat. nite and mon. morn surfed sanO and had a blast. the niceness vibe lives on there. i can't recall how many times people were like 'no, you take this wave'. uhh....if you insist. the odd thing is there are a couple hundred people in the water, yet only a few of them actually catching waves. woke up sunday sore from surfing so much on saturday...also fell asleep fully clothed on the floor due to sheer exhaustion and one too many beverages from our friends in golden, colorado. sunday was the only day that sucked, windy and choppy, just surfed one of the carlsbad beaches. couple pods of dolphins came by to say hi on saturday, and again monday morning.

Friend #1 - I am sure that was me. There was a northerly rip - I ended up a few blocks north - even though I was doing my best to fight the rip. Big tide changes suck.

watup, niceness?! well...one half of the Kaiser/ck south swell reconnaisance team is back from the isles. yeah...i know...wtf?!...didn't i just leave on Friday? well...lemme put it this way...the choice was a 3-day trip on a killah fare or no trip at all so, of course, the choice was clear! ; )

anyway...the report on the south swell is going to have to wait for Kaiser (returns late on Wednesday) as it was, rumour has it, to hit this a.m. (around the time my red-eye was touching down at SFO! d'oh!!). Kaiser is likely killin' it at his favorite break on the south shore right now!

as for me...i can only report on some fun windswell at an exposed South Shore reef that tends to focus and magnify swell effectively. many long seshies in slightly crossed up and somewhat mushy conditions. however, the vibe was surprisingly pos and friendly, the crowd dispersed effectively by the many distinct peaks on offer, and the water temp was 79F. add to that a smattering of distant rainbows and the joy of hooting Kaiser, his buddy Dean (who rips!), and my lady-charger as they cruised down the line and snapped spray out the back...and it's all good! (a few fun ones here and there for myself didn't hurt, either! ; ) we saw the best conditions (for a short board) on Saturday and some outrageous longboarding last night! i've never seen so many stylie fivers!

now i'm back at werk and strugglin' to get by on a 4.5 hour red-eye's worth of sleep! ahhh...the wonders of jet-travel!

e...sorry to hear about the back, amigo. as an all-too-frequent tweaked-back sufferer, i feel for ya. such a bummer. i wish you a rapid recovery and hope to see ya out there in time for the approaching south!

OB: high tide has utilized it's mush power to the fullest, overall juicy yet even lumpier and crossed up version of the past 2 days. Wave size all over the place, waist,shoulder, head high is common, lots of whitewater, but definitely OHers lurched up earlier this am, maybe will return on the low. Closeouts less common but don't worry, there are still just enough laying in wait for surfer ambush. No one out at the moment but there's been one or two or three takers. Forget clear channels and peaks. Annoying looking paddle but if you're in the right place at the right time there could be rides to snag. Currently sunny with medium-light onshores.Cheers,

sun diego was super fun this weekend with head high glassy peelers, a good crew dawn patrolling pacific beach, baby dolphins doing their first aerial tricks, good vibes all around for a 3.5 hour sesh. after 4 years of surfing, i've finally got that backside cutback down, so stoked to have it click. now bring on more waves!

anyone know a good peru airline? thinking about going this july for a couple weeks.

e - sorry to hear about your back. It must be the moon. I've been babyin' an old back injury for about a year now, and tweaked it on Sunday wriggling into my wetsuit - it doesn't take much lately! It was a short session after that, in crappy Pedro waves (I was on it late/Ocean Beach was already blown). I've been alternating heat/ice for the last 36 hours or so - but I'll be good to go in a day, or two.
gvibe - check out TACA Airlines. Good prices, but you have to change planes in San Jose, C.R. and make a quick pickup stop in San Salvador. Two years a go it was $20 per board each way. Have fun!

Yup, yesterday it was Sharkbait to the rescue once again as KK leash repair ltd. suffered a quality control setback.

A little of everything this weekend, from a session of jetty dribbles, to a completely definitely planned workout of 20min reps of fail-to-get-out-at-OB, to a happy medium yesterday morning at a spot in between that Sharkbait and I had mostly to ourselves. The latter was the first time I'd had big and clean enough waves to notice the benefits of riding a slightly smaller board (8' funshape as opposed to 9' performance longboard). Fun! Still too chunky a board to duckdive, however, which I certainly noticed as well in my absolutely totally planned OB workout.

And that girl up there is missing something! Only one string on the ukelele!

Got a few not-too-horrible photos from the longboard contest this weekend at the Lane. Never been into the SUV surfboards, but some of these guys were really good. . . fun to watch the peeps who were especially graceful. Rest are on Photos 10 page at SurfHumor. Oh- there's a good shot of a gopher, too.

Surfed Dizzyland on Friday (fun), Florida Isle on Saturday (OK- bit disorganized), point south of county line on Sunday (fickle), and back to Magic Mountain yesterday. . . really fun. When I drove up at o-dark-thirty this morning the spots around the slide and anal mar were showing some size and thickness. Cross your fingers for later in the week.
