diminutive crispy warmth

gutless little wave
I seek out pockets of speed
a few little turns

silky smooth texture
grandiose natural bounty
california dreams

break out the longboard
graceful cross-step to the nose
hangin' ten my friend

a critical drop
race along the glassy face
arc a turn and burn

stomach calling out
hey! it's time to head back in
must drop a growler!

gotta love the fecal haiku

must drop a growler - classic! the worst, in the wetty and feeling the urge to drop a steamer.

Posted by: j at March 16, 2004 10:55 AM

Got some early morning slop - surfable even at 6:15, great for those of us crushed for time. Saw kdalle and Marco and later Christian, whose back is an issue. That's a tough one, C, hope it feels better. Maybe connect with kdalle, he's worked through back issues before.

Today it is starting to feel like spring surf.

looking for some tips on repairing a pretty nasty ding-
on sunday at ob, this guy who was just sitting on his board not paying attention got sucked over the falls as I was paddling out-and he plowed right into me! argh!
after going thru the spin cycle with this guy, I surfaced to find a gash about 3 inches long in my tail
was certainly pissed but didn't see any point in lashing out at someone for a honest, albeit dumb mistake- there are already too many arseholes out there
anyway- advise? this one might be too deep for me to attempt to patch with my limited repair abilities-any recommendations?

Posted by: billm at March 16, 2004 11:10 AM

I've been dealing with a bad back for some years. Last month was the first time in a long time that it popped out while surfing - in 4 foot slop. After 10 days off with light stretching and easy crunches, I went to Big 5 and got a neoprene wrap-around back support. It's perfectly comfortable under the wetsuit and keeps the lower back warm while adding a little support. Seems to be working for me as my back is getting better. It's hard taking off late when you can't snap up to your feet quickly though. A little extra foam is helpful.

holy crap this weather is great

if this weather was a girl, to her i would masturbate

this morning i went out for an hour

the waves were lacking in power

for 2 days i have only taken salt water showers

no wonder my coworkers look sour

hope you were able to work out the poo

ps, JDZ is scoring right now at namotu

ding repair?

simple....call alex who's name and number are posted on the main page for good work fair price and very quick turnaround.

or...utilize search button on main page and look up ding repair, ding repair books, and ding repair tips.

also...remember the only difference between a big ding and a small one is more sanding and more resin.

ok...now i gotta go surf. ding repair tips today, reconstruction of iraq tips tomorrow, solve world hunger thursday.

Posted by: tom at March 16, 2004 11:17 AM

Yeah - clean it up, solid filler layer, sand heavily, patch with glass and lam resin, finish with sanding resin. Do each step properly and it'll last a long long time. Three resin steps.

If you are a pretty boy (or girl), you can match colors for the lam resin step, and gloss over at the end.

can't.....resist.....must.....ditch......work. lunchtime surf here I come.

Posted by: barney at March 16, 2004 11:24 AM

OB: if you are at work reading this you're already making a mistake. Yes it's small - however seen a couple head highs recently - but all other details irrelevant. I'm seeing lots of deathly ill employees or people with sudden urgent family problems out there. If all of the Bay Area bosses ever band together and figure out who their surfing workers are, you guys are all BUSTED! Me, this year the cosmos seems to be enforcing the hard lesson of paaatieeeence, and not the gentler lesson of learning to surf around here. Writing this surf year off to zen lessons I guess. Yes I caught a nasty cold this week but can sound just like your manufactured dying great uncle should you require some valid excuse to flee your cubicle...

PS goodness today's poetry brings such tears of joy

Posted by: s.s. sharkbait at March 16, 2004 11:29 AM

Bagel just laid a classic. Rack that quote...

I'm going surfing, later.

good to meet ck and christian this morning. i must echo the get-well sentiments of blakestah... i dealt with years of back/neck pain (& headaches!) myself and can commiserate. all i can say is, it *will* eventually get better...

was remarking on the absence of pelicans this morning and just then one graced on by as if to say..."we're still around." what an exquisite morning...

Posted by: paul b at March 16, 2004 11:44 AM

christian...great sharing the water with ya. sorry that your back was/is giving you issues. though...i gotta say that i'd never have guessed it watching that long left where you snapped the lip aggressively multiple times! very stylie!

paul b...good meeting you this a.m. you were, as christian indicated, truly the king o' the peak! nice waves.

A haiku based on last week's shitting/shooting day at the VFW parking lot:

-
Must unleash growler?
Restrain it. Don't foul the beach,
Or gunplay ensues.
-

Posted by: redworm at March 16, 2004 11:50 AM

Damn - one too many syllables in the first line. E, can you take out that "a"? I want it to be right because with all this literary activity, the Nobel committee members are sure to be lurking.

Posted by: redworm at March 16, 2004 12:02 PM

no probs redworm.. i saw that extra syllable but didn't want to be the haiku police.. I too struggled with integrating "drop a growler" into a 5 syllable phrase. kinda tough. "pinch a loaf" a bit easier" or "squirt a bert" but.. "drop a growler" a bit tricky..

bagel.. fucking excellent poem!

I'm a newbie here if you can't tell already, love the blog E, and blakestah tells it like it is on his page too. just made it back from the lunch surf, damn good time I must say. south of market to OB in 35 minutes with a stop at home for the board and suit. just over 2 hours round trip today. time for a new suit, ripped a whole in the suit today and tore the middle fin off my board as well. crazy considering how big it was out there at lunch today...

Posted by: barney at March 16, 2004 01:53 PM

Tom, Blakestah,
much thanks for the reponse!

Didn't get a chance to post yesterday, but Saturday night a buddy of mine and I camped out at a spot right off 1 a bit North of SC. I'm not going to mention the name cuz some people might throw a fit, but needless to say, we woke up at 5:45 to indo-esque rights mackin through. It was going off. Not too huge, but decent head high/OH sets. It was so foggy that no one came out. It was my friend and I, and 3 other people. 2 of the guys were SO cool, we were talkin story the whole time, hooting at each other, etc. etc. I would have to say it was one of my all time best sessions ever. Couldn't help thinking of the tooth lurking below. Man in the grey suit was around some where I could just sense it. Very fun. Anyway, going to the South Shore on Oahu for a month June 17th through July 17th. If anyone wants to crash at our apt. for a week or whatever hit me up!

Posted by: Ian at March 16, 2004 08:18 PM

Oh YEAH! Saturday I surfed Rockaway and the Coast Guard was going nuts! A boat a few hundred yards off shore, and the helicopter was hovering about 50 ft above a few of us and 100 ft. out. The current was probably the gnarliest current I've ever paddled in. The sets would break and I would be about 30 feet from shore and in a matter of seconds we were out past any of the rocks encompassing the the cove. I guess the coast guard was looking for someone, but I sware to you he was waiting for us to get sucked out! Crazy!

Posted by: Ian at March 16, 2004 08:22 PM

OB why you so mentallly fucked up?

you cause me to have nightmares... and yet I am drawn to your fangy gaze,

And yet I am drawn to you, am I fucked up too...

Posted by: Alan Smithee at March 16, 2004 09:47 PM

The coasties were looking for someone who got sucked out at between Sharp Park and Mori Point at 1 PM.

Posted by: blakestah at March 17, 2004 05:55 AM

Blakestah-

Just out of curiosity, how'd you find that out? I commonly see some sort of Coast Guard activity along the coast and I'm always curious. Are you using a police scanner? Is there some website or something?
