I got some feedback yesterday about water temps in France in Sept.--and what thickness of wetsuit I should take. I've got a 2/2 with short sleaves. My guess is that it will. This may be a stupid question, but will that do? Someone said to expect Santa Barbara–like water conditions.

I have been to South of France in Sept and skinned it the whole time, even in the morning. All of the beachies were firing and water temp had to be 68 to 72 degrees and the air temp was hight 70's. I do not know if that experience was an anomally or what but my fiance at the time, who was from spain and had been there many times said it was always like that when she had been there. Keep in mind at the time I had been living in the City and you all know how cold it is there.

man.. i haven't surfed without a 4/3/booties/hood in years! argh.

dawnies require more rubber. hoods protect your ears and skin from sun. booties ya get used to and provide more traction.
4/3's allow you to surf longer so.....why in hell not?

Woke up at 4:30, stoked at the buoys, made the drive north, parked, hid behind the bushes to change, ran down to a semi-secret point, mushiness but isolatedness. 3 people at most for the 3 hours i was out, infrequent sets but still snagged 10 or so lonnnng rights that keep me goin’ all day! Drove by the more popular spots around there and you could barely see the water there was so much black neoprene.

I'm in Marin right now. Holy shit it's going ballistic up here. My friend CHarlie locked into a 10 second tube that just peeeeled across the reef. There was nobody out and the south swell was firing. I've never seen such cordoroy up here. Holy shit that was the best surf i've ever seen in my entire life! I feel bad for all you city cube monkeys.

I'll tell you one thing, that friggin 90 days of solid rain that we had doesnt help much when raising kids. Can you say "Cabin Fever"?

For those really advanced, it's NMW LION 4&40. That stands for No Matter What, Like It Or Not, you're staying out until you catch at least 4 waves and surf for 40 mintues.

I only have a 3 wave minimum when I paddle out. No 40 min minimum either.

Given all the negatives, I still love the first south of the season and am anxious with anticipation for tomorrow. Souths can be such gems, and that's what I remember. Not the busts. I hope everyone scores.

Bible College Student Confesses to Burning Adult Bookstore

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Police say a Bible college student charged with setting fire to an adult bookstore confessed to the crime after realizing it was a sin.

Benjamin Daniel Warren, 20, is a student at Crown College, a fundamental Baptist college and seminary of about 900 students in Knoxville.

Warren waived a preliminary hearing this week, and a grand jury is considering his case. His attorney, Chris Coffey, did not immediately return a call for comment Friday.

Authorities said a man wearing black clothing and a ski mask and carrying what proved to be a fake gun entered the Town and Country Bookstore on Jan. 31 and asked the clerk if anyone was inside. Assured the store was empty, he ordered the clerk to leave.

He poured about six gallons of "an ignitable liquid" inside the bookstore and set it on fire, according to an arrest warrant.

No one was injured, but the fire destroyed $600,000 in merchandise and caused up to $300,000 in damage to the building, owner David Stubbs said.

Police had no clue to the masked man's identity until Warren surrendered April 11.
