E's Surf Report: small but warm

what's up boyz! chillin' here on Block Island, RI.. i've surfed twice at a rock-reef break called Black Rock and had a killer body surfing session on scotch beach.. the water is a refreshing 70 degrees and the air has been hot and humid.. the waves have been super small.. i caught some little sections at black rock on monday.. and some painfully small waves this morning.. The bikinis have been hooking it, however... some serious "talent" in affect... Robbie.. i also saw a nice little left point break down near Cunamus road.. i'm not sure it's the same as the one we discussed but it looked to have serious potential.. 1 foot waves were peeling and peeling along the point.. it was cool.. i wish there was more swell as Block Island has many reef and point setups and the water is warm.. but.. alas.. the doldrums of the east coast are the reality..

anyway.. hope that you heads get some waves over there.. september is around the corner.. yeah!!!

E, stoke - you are having real summer! Excellent, even if small waves. Hopefully you will get a little bump one way or another before you leave. Yeah, I think that the Cunamus break works on a hurricane swell. But I think the main SE break is just south of a red nun marking the channel.

Jerm and I surfed at Sloat this AM. Thank goodness we got their early as it was getting ragged by 8 am. But we first got there and there was some size! Not like scary or anything, but definitely our beloved Ocean Beach. Like upside down waves, big troughs. Unfortunately lots of close-out, but occasional lefts and rights. Very short period. I think there was a little weird storm off Oregon or something. Jerm hooked several lefts, including one where he emerged from the foam and into a nice confident bottom turn. I had a good right, probably my first wave.

Afterwards when we were standing in the lot getting dressed, we saw a huge flock of gulls and all this commotion in the water. We never figured out exactly what it was, but we decided it was a sea lion in a school of fish. I hope so cuz a little group of fellas paddled right out in the middle of it.

e i'm totally jealous. i've got last night's OB report..a huge suckfest. didn't even take the surfboard out but the bodyboard instead. some of the shorebreak was just kicking my ass. brutal stuff.

E, your not missing much here. Only surfed 1 day the entire week. Howling onshores have been ruining it the last few days. Looks like there's some southern hemi swell coming in for the weekend. Hopefully the wind dies down a bit. Glad to here that your enjoying the sun and warm water. It has been dark and cold here. Tell everyone I said hi. Robbie, dawn patrol tomorrow?

Another unsurfable day this AM. Checked Slizoat. The South doesn't seem to be showing at all. E, you picked the right week to go. It friggin freezing here. You'll return just in time for Indian Summer. MWers went down to Santa Cruz this morning with some 1rst timers to Cowells. I shoulda cruzed (he he) down there with them. It looks good!

It was fun down at Cowell's. Crowded as a mofo. Nice clean pealing thigh-high waves with chest-high on the bigger sets. Surfing there definitely makes me feel like a better surfer than I actually am. Took Tonya, Eric, and Heather down there bright and early. All of them got rides. It was funny seeing those guys get out of the water at Cowell's and say "Man, I got totally worked on that last one!" :-) Germ, ya shoulda hit it with us!

Oh yeah, and we saw a pod of dolphins cruising around just outside of Cowell's. On some of the bigger sets, the dolphins rode the waves in and were jumping completely out of the face of the wave. Too cool!!!

Nice! Wish I would of joined you in SC. Went out this morning with the lowest expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Waves! Waist to chest. There was a light Southern wind when I arrived at around 6:30 that picked up as the session went on, but didn't seem to be blowing it out to bad. Definitely the best it has been in over a week, but that's not saying much.

I checked VFW's around 9:00 am this morning to find it pretty junky with some good sections and a fair number of people out. Sloat looked a little cleaner but not great. I drove down to Lindy which was also junky with a bunch of double-ups and short period stuff. There were only about 20 people in the water up and down the beach so I hit it. It wasn't that great but nice to get wet.
